Our Artisans
Weavers Stores finds its foundation in the ideas of sustainability that presents fashion as a medium to create awareness and participation while empowering the local craft communities of India. Our biggest passion is working with weaving communities and artisans across India by embracing mindful practices while reinventing traditional techniques for contemporary times of today. Fostering global recognition for these exquisite textiles, we aim to enrich the lives of skilled artisans. As this value spreads worldwide, it promises higher wages for weavers and serves as a beacon of inspiration for countless rural livelihoods within this sector. Thus far, we have an ongoing partnership with 8 craft clusters across India that enables us to design original textiles and we also work with rural artisan communities who hand print our fabrics using natural dyes and create patterns authentic to their regions as a means to bridge the gap between age-old craftsmanship and modern wardrobes.

The handloom industry is one of the largest unorganized sectors of economic activity in India, employing 43.31 lakh weavers from rural and semi-urban areas. Most of them are economically disadvantaged groups and 77% of weavers are women. As the nation strives towards empowering more women, we look at this sector and acknowledge its strengths: minimum use of capital and power, environment-friendly production process, flexibility to innovate, and the capability of being a huge growth driver for more women to join India’s economic workforce. Our brands’ purpose defines the process and the slowed-down process of hand weaving allows us to build a sustainable livelihood for local artisans. With every purchase from Weavers Stores, you not only support our brand but also increase employment for the marginalized weaving communities across India.
As a Khadi fashion and lifestyle brand that bridges the weaver and the wearer, we are constantly looking for innovative ways to uphold the highest ethical and environmental standards to become a zero-waste brand over time. We have also teamed up with Athulya Paper Studio by the Srishti Foundation, an NGO empowering specially-abled people to create our packaging material made of recycled wood-free paper. Our entire team works in a well-lit, cozy studio and earns fair wages. We provide intensive training that enables each an opportunity to enhance their skill and grow in their career and at no point is financial gain given precedence over the physical and mental health of our team members. Weavers Stores believes in innovation and creativity; paying attention to details and setting high-quality standards; team spirit with employees, building relationships with stakeholders; in reserving resources, and giving back to society.
